Walmart opens the door to secure delivery with Smart Garage Tech

Users can secure, control and monitor their garage via their smartphone with the myQ app. They can receive real-time alerts when the garage door is open and allow anyone to use the app remotely.

Full-time, permanent Walmart associates will be assigned to deliver, so consumers can have peace of mind that a familiar, trusted face is behind every order. On the day of delivery, they will have one-time access to the garage via a connected myQ device.

They will store the order in the garage (and – if available – in the garage refrigerator), disinfect the surfaces they have touched and collect any returns. After the delivery is complete, they close the garage door to ensure the security of the house and the packages.

“Walmart+ InHome’s goal is to provide our members with convenience and choice, and over the past few years we’ve found our in-garage delivery option to be a popular choice among members,” said Whitney Pegden, Vice President and General Manager, InHome. “We’re really excited that myQ smart garage technology is helping us reach more customers with a more seamless garage experience.”

“With over 210 million packages disappearing from front porches across the United States last year, many consumers feel the need to plan their day around deliveries to ensure they receive their packages and groceries” , said Kiel Fitzgerald, senior director of delivery services for Chamberlain Group, parent of myQ technology.

“Delivery to the garage puts the customer in control without the need to schedule the day around deliveries – rain or shine, packages and groceries will stay safe inside the garage until ‘someone is free to collect them,” Fitzgerald added.

At home was combined with Walmart+ earlier this year.Seeking to provide a single, streamlined experience, Walmart merged the two standalone loyalty programs, now allowing new and existing members to choose the Walmart+ membership plan that most interests them based on the type of delivery they require.

This collaboration marks the latest phase of Walmart’s loyalty initiatives, which aim to expand its rewards program to engage consumers in new ways. The company recently launched Walmart Rewards to give consumers an added incentive to shop through earned rebates.
