STEP receives funding for home repairs | News

STEP Western North Carolina announced that it has received another substantial financial grant from the Pisgah Health Foundation to support the work of its home repair department.

STEP Western North Carolina (“Serving Together Empowers People”) is the only Transylvania County-based non-profit organization that helps eligible homeowners get free repairs to their homes to make them safe and secure, according to a statement from hurry. It also operates a very active firewood department that delivers split and seasoned wood to eligible neighbors to help them heat their homes during the colder months.

The Pisgah Health Foundation is an exceptional, caring and generous organization committed to helping neighbors in Transylvania County have the opportunity to focus on their health and well-being and that of their family members, the statement said. The Pisgah Health Foundation Home Repair Grant application began in early October and STEP WNC received $ 30,000.00 to assist the Home Repair Department. This particular grant will contribute to STEP WNC’s efforts to repair HVAC systems, house cladding and insulation, drainage and water management under and around houses, water heater repair / replacement, replacing exterior doors, upgrading the tub for accessibility, replacing broken windows, leveling the driveway and gravel to ensure accessibility for homeowners / emergency services, framing and sub- rotten floors, ramps for accessibility for people with disabilities and weatherproofing and winterization of structures.

STEP WNC has been busy doing repairs outside of homes since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The organization has only just started entering the homes of families in need of their services. There is a long backlog of work that is needed, and STEP WNC is delighted to partner with the Pisgah Health Foundation to provide neighbors with the help they need to keep their homes safe and secure, the statement said.

As always, STEP WNC is looking for volunteer leaders to help the people of Transylvania, West Henderson and South Jackson counties have warm, safe and secure housing. STEP WNC is actively seeking a CFO / Treasurer, a webmaster and an office manager. STEP WNC is proud to say that the work done is of near professional quality with high quality materials. When a job exceeds STEP’s resources, STEP WNC actively subcontracts the job.
