The Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District (NSAQMD) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a free Burn Wise event for the community, taking place at Veterans Hall in Portola on Saturday, September 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be lunch, treats and drinks provided, as well as face painting.
The event will feature several local vendors and speakers. The Beckwourth Fire Department will be present at the event along with local companies Quincy Hot Spot, Wolf Creek Wood Stoves and Heat Transfer Systems, as well as the Plumas County Fire Safe Council. The NSAQMD will raffle off three one-rope wooden shelters and give away a pack of BIO BLOCKS to the first 88 participants in the event.
“The goal is to educate residents about our woodstove replacement program and surrounding program elements such as the importance of annual sweeps and the vouchers we provide, one-cord woodsheds we provide to residents with EPA-compliant wood-burning appliances. , and education and display of mini split electric heat pumps,” an organizer explained. “The goal we are aiming for is to achieve – we want to achieve good indoor air quality.”
