Nathaniel Bowman Obituary (2022) – Mount Gilead, OH

Nathaniel R. “Nate” Bowman, 24, of Mount Gilead, died on Friday January 7, 2022 from injuries sustained in a car crash.

On January 28, 1997, Nate was born in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Gary Alan and Linda Ann (Leary) Bowman. Growing up he was very involved with 4-H where he showed a variety of animals but mostly loved his ducks and then joined FFA. He graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 2015.

Nate was a hardworking man and respected in his chosen profession, landscape construction. He was a landscape construction team leader for Environmental Management Inc. in Plain City for four years. He then accepted a foreman position in Delaware with Pony Lawncare and Landscaping, where he was entering his third season. He was reserved at work, but if he spoke to tell you something, you better listen.

When Nate wasn’t working, he played as hard as he worked. He loved spending time with his friends and enjoyed going hunting, fishing and mud riding on quads and jeeps. He has built many custom cars and diesel trucks, his precious possession being the Nissan 370Z he has just completed. He loved to take his cars to different shows and had made many friends over the years in the auto and van community.

Nate had a special place in his heart for animals. He grew up with dogs, cats and lots of fish in his many aquariums. He became interested in reptiles and first had a bearded dragon. Over time, it also acquired a greater variety of reptiles.

Nate will be remembered as a good-hearted young man who was one of those who always helped others. He was calm at first, but once he got to know you he was going wild. His smile and cheerful personality always lit up a room and made everyone around him laugh.

Nate will be sadly missed by the love of his life, Ayla Sturgill of Mount Gilead; his parents, Gary and Linda Bowman of Delaware; sister, Kathleen Bowman of Dublin; grandfather, John Leary of Haslett, MI; aunts and uncles: Brian (Darlene) Leary of Roseville, CA, Patrick Leary of St. Augustine, FL, James (Yukiko) Leary and their son, Taishi, of Rochester, NY; and his best friend (as a brother), Bryson Wray of Ostrander.

He was predeceased by his grandparents: Patricia Leary, Emma Jane Bowman and Richard Bowman.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
