MVCC announces new hires, promotions and title changes

UTICA – Mohawk Valley Community College announced the following new appointments, employee title changes and promotions, as approved by the Board of Trustees:

• Salina Billins became Director of Opportunity Programs and will provide leadership for the overall administration of the MVCC Educational Opportunity Program and the College Science and Technology Entrance Program Grant, including oversight, budget management , compliance with grant requirements and program evaluation. Billins has been with MVCC since 2012 in a variety of capacities, beginning as a GEAR UP Academic Specialist, Completion Coach, GEAR UP Coordinator, and most recently as Director of EOP. She is also a leadership co-facilitator for MVCC’s Center for Leadership Excellence series Neighborhoods Rising.

• Molly Cameron has been appointed to the position of Librarian – User Experience and will provide comprehensive library and information services to students, faculty, staff and community members using current and emerging technologies to deliver a quality user experience. They will also participate in the teaching of information literacy, facilitate access to library collections, serve as liaison with the academic affairs department and participate in collection development and management activities, the evaluation process and professional development activities to keep abreast of the latest developments. developments and best practices related to areas of responsibility.

•Steffani DiPierro has transitioned to the grant-funded position of GEAR UP Coordinator and will manage programming and support services for GEAR UP, overseeing the effective delivery of a wide range of educational support and intervention services to support retention and learning. program completion. • Frank DuRoss was named vice president emeritus in recognition of his many years of outstanding service, the college announced.

• Venancio Fuentes was appointed as an Electrical Engineering Technology Instructor in the School of STEM. Prior to joining MVCC, Fuentes was Professor of Electronic Engineering Technology and Chair of Engineering Technology and Criminal Justice at County College of Morris in New Jersey.

• Jaime Gallardo has been appointed to the grant-funded position of Workforce Development Coordinator at the Center for Corporate and Community Education and will be responsible for addressing regional workforce development needs by coordinating the development and delivery of educational programs.

• Julia Hobika has been appointed to the funded position of the Center for Leadership Excellence Coordinator program and coordinates the development and delivery of leadership programs for personal enrichment and professional development. She will also work collaboratively to identify and prioritize educational needs for leadership, enrichment and development offerings.

• Angela Marken has been appointed Assistant to the Office of Advancement and will provide office and administrative support to the Office of Advancement to assist with fundraising and community development. She will also be responsible for maintaining various financial and budget details for the MVCC Foundation office and board and for researching, collecting and maintaining confidential donor, prospect and financial information.

• Paw Kshaw has transitioned to the grant-funded position of Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) Specialist in the TRIO-Upward Bound and GEAR UP department and will provide direct services to STEP students and assist in the development, implementation and program evaluation. Paw has been with MVCC since 2021 as a part-time STEP Advisor.

• James Roberts became an assistant professor in the School of Humanities and will teach classes in English. He has worked at the College since 2010, serving as a professional writing tutor, instructor, assistant professor, and most recently as Dean of the School of Humanities.

• Erin Rooks has been appointed Health Professions Resource Specialist in the School of Health Sciences and will oversee the Health Professions Resource Center, reinforcing content and skills learned with individual students. She will also be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to improve student retention in the School’s programs.

• Jensen Saere has been appointed to the position of grant-funded Job Corps Scholar Advisor and will provide youth from diverse backgrounds in the Utica population in need with a rigorous academic education, vocational training, and viable pathways to college and careers . He will also act as a program liaison and student advocate, coordinating and referring students to MVCC and community resources as needed.

• Jaime Sangiacomo-Jackson has transitioned to the position funded by the Coordinator, Reintegration grant and will be responsible for playing a lead role in the coordination of services and support/educational activities to assist citizens and returning offenders after release to reintegrate the community. Sangiacomo-Jackson has worked at MVCC since 2017 as a Transfer Success Advisor and most recently as a part-time Education Outreach Center Technical Assistant/Accountant.

• Andriana Semko transitioned to an instructor position in the School of Health Sciences and will teach courses in the Health Information Technology program. Semko has held an instructor position at MVCC since 2021. Prior to joining the College, she was Program Director and Instructor for the Medical Coding and Billing Program at Bryant and Stratton College, Director of Information Management Health at Sitrin Healthcare Center, Remote Ambulatory Medical Coder for Himagine Solutions in Tampa, Revenue Integrity Specialist/Ambulatory Medical Coder for Oneida Healthcare, and Information Dissemination Coordinator for Mohawk Valley Health Systems.

• Krystal Smith has been appointed as a Certified Mental Health Practitioner and will be responsible for providing a full range of counseling, mentoring and coaching services, as well as personal and educational counseling to individual students. She will also be responsible for assessing mental health and mental health-related cases and may provide short-term interventions and referrals to community agencies as needed.

• Devin Sonne has been named an instructor and will teach chemistry classes in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Sonne previously served the college as a Professional Tutor and then an Adjunct Instructor. Since then she has worked at Kerry Bio-Science in Norwich as Health, Safety and Environment Manager. • Marie Veschusio has been appointed Admissions Specialist and will work closely with the Director of Admissions to develop and implement an Admissions Recruitment Plan consistent with the college’s strategic plan and initiatives. She will also be responsible for recruiting students to meet college enrollment goals by working with high school counselors, adult learners, community organizations and local businesses.
