The show kicked off in spectacular fashion on Sunday, with Brendan Cole, Kimberly Wyatt and Regan Gascoigne battling it out to be crowned the series champion.

After a series dubbed the closest in the show’s history, the three remaining couples took to the rink with their Showcase before returning to their favorite skate to win viewers’ votes, and it remains to be seen which two couples will be able to skate the coveted Boléro.

First up were Regan and Karina with a fun number from Mary Poppins’ iconic song Step In Time, turning into chimney sweeps for the high-energy routine, and they quickly set the bar for top marks.

Earning the first perfect score of the night with 40 points, the speedy skate was praised by the judges who noted that it wouldn’t have looked out of place in a West End show.

Jayne noted: ‘Right from the start the music that you bring to life is like watching you perform in the West End, it just feels like a really professional show but you wouldn’t have managed to make it work if you hadn’t had the skating skills. Fantastic.’

Oti added: “You directed all that skating, it was all about you, the character you got it right, there was nothing I didn’t like, absolutely brilliant.”

Ahead of the final, Regan was called the 2-5 favorite to win the ITV reality show, with Brendan second favorite at 3-1, while Kimberly was named the 6-1 underdog of the final three.

Leading bookmaker Coral predicted: ‘Regan has been our favorite for a very long time now and it would be a big shock if he weren’t crowned the winner of the 2022 Dancing On Ice series. He has every chance of getting his hands on the trophy.

Public relations manager Harry Aitkenhead continued of the son of former England footballer Paul Gascoigne: “If there is going to be an upset Brendan is most likely to cause it according to our bets while Kimberly is the ‘rank outsider of the bottom three.’

Brendan recently revealed it was ‘tiring’ that Strictly Come Dancing ‘pushed the same narrative for 15 series’ that he was the show’s ‘competitive’, telling MailOnline he couldn’t show ‘only one side of him’ when he was a BBC program pro.

He went on to praise Dancing On Ice for “showing him in a lovely light”, including more of his fun personality and that he likes to “have fun” with other contestants.

Two weeks earlier, Connor Ball and Alexandra Schauman, along with Kye Whyte and Tippy Packard narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after being knocked out in the semis.
