Get more value with the Greenworks 60V Pole Saw and Hedge Trimmer Combo.
A pole is one of the most requested tools in our arsenal that our neighbors ask to borrow. It’s a great tool to have, but pairing it with a pole hedge trimmer makes your high landscaping tasks much easier. We unboxed the Greenworks 60V Pole Saw and Hedge Trimmer Kit to see if its performance is worth pulling the trigger.
Using the Greenworks 60V Pole Saw and Hedge Trimmer Kit
What’s in the box
Greenworks includes everything you need to start sawing and trimming hedges. Well, anything but sea bass oil, so be sure to grab a liter.
Inside the box there is the power head, the pole saw attachment, the pole hedge trimmer attachment, an extension cord, a 2.0 Ah battery, a charger and a shoulder strap. Of course you also get the manual, scabbards and key.
Greenworks 60V Pole Saw and Pole Hedge Trimmer Power Head
The powerhead handle and two-finger trigger are comfortable. There is a trigger safety which helps prevent accidental motor activation during transport. Unlike some of the other shaft-based tools from Greenworks, this safety is built into the trigger and it’s more convenient in our opinion.
Since the brushless motors are located on the props, it is heavier forward than other pole saws with a drive shaft running through them. The advantage is that the tool works very well compared to other models we have used.
Greenworks includes a shoulder strap to help you manage the weight and it’s very useful when increasing your reach with the extension.
Connecting an accessory
Replacing accessories is quick and easy: loosen the threaded collar, align the connection, and retighten the collar.
Keep in mind that this model does not use a universal attachment connection, so it is only compatible with this powerhead. Note that the Greenworks 60V Plug and Play String Trimmer uses a universal connection, so it is not compatible with these attachments.
When you add the extension between the powerhead and the attachment, the tool is 9 feet long, giving you about 14 feet of working distance, depending on your size and reach.
Greenworks 60V Pole Saw
bar and chain
This pole saw uses a 10 inch bar paired with a 1/4 inch pitch .050 gauge chain which made quick work of the branches we needed to clear. Getting rid of the smaller 1 inch branches to clear space above the driveway was lightning fast. Even removing some of the larger 4-6 inch branches, the saw didn’t feel like it was sweating.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the single captive nut on the side to allow the bar to move then turn the tensioner screw located at the front of the motor housing with the slotted screwdriver next to the screw to tighten or loosen it. Once you’ve made your adjustments, tighten the nut to secure the bar in place and you’re good to go.
While we don’t mind using a scrench for tension adjustments, the tensioner screw location on this particular model is just plain inconvenient. It’s right against the bar and it’s a bit difficult to handle with the kit scrench. If you have a long flathead screwdriver, it’s easier.
There’s an automatic chain oiler and a reservoir that holds almost 3 ounces of your favorite bar oil. This should give you about 30 minutes of cutting time between refills, but keep an eye out for the translucent oil level indicator window just to be on the safe side.

Greenworks 60V Pole Hedge Trimmer
This articulating pole hedge trimmer is an updated version that now features a brushless motor and greater cutting capacity. It can now handle branches up to 1.2 inches thick, improving on the 3/4 inch capacity of the previous version. That’s a big cutting capacity for a hedge trimmer and the fact that it’s on a pole extension is even better.
It also runs at 3200 SPM and got us down a brisk pace.
7 position head
Adjusting the angle of the trimmer head is easy. Simply use your thumb to move the sliding trigger on the head and move it to the best angle of attack. The head can swivel forward up to a full 90° and approximately 45° in the opposite direction.
This made it very useful as we reshaped a series of large hedges. From the start, he quickly took care of the fronts, sides and backs of each hurdle. The main advantage was not crawling between the hedges and the house since we had enough range to manage them.
By tilting forward, it was not necessary to drag a stepladder to reach the top of the hedges. By articulating the back, we could easily clear branches and tall grass at ground level.
