CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – We are currently in the middle of National Fire Prevention Week.
22News spoke with the Chicopee Fire Department about how to make sure your home is safe. This year’s theme for National Fire Prevention Week is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”. that draws attention to the sounds emitted by modern smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
“Do you hear a beep?” Get up! ”Is a slogan that is used to remind people that if they hear three or four loud beeps, it means there is smoke, fire or carbon monoxide. It’s time for you. to go out, stay outside and call 911. But what about the hard of hearing or deaf?
“We have what’s called a ‘bed shaker’, so if you have a T-3 smoke detector, it will send a wireless signal to the shaker and shake the bed and flash on the screen so that people who are the smoke detector went off, ”said Chicopee Fire Department Lt. Katie Collins-Kalbaugh. The Chicopee Fire Department offers free alarms for the hearing impaired or deaf. At the Chicopee Fire Department there are fire prevention hours where you can get various permits, fire reports, and your fire safety questions answered.
In addition to making sure your alarms have fresh batteries, it’s important to keep other fire hazards in your home up to date and cleaned up. “Lots of chimney fires, although some can be loud, some very quiet, so you might not even know you’ve had one. So we like to go out and do the cleaning, and then we do an inspection. complete by camera to make sure there aren’t any cracks or gaps or anything like that, ”said Kimberly Faria of New England Chimney Sweeps & Masonry Inc.
Kimberly also mentioned that after all the rain we got last year, to make sure there aren’t any cracks in your chimney that could have caused a leak.
