“Disneyland Forever” remains a masterpiece

April 20, 2022, 11:17 p.m. · After the return of the Main Street Electric Parade tonight, Disneyland brought back another of its nightly shows with the return of the Disneyland Forever Fireworks.

Originally presented as part of the 60th Diamond Anniversary celebration in 2015, Disneyland Forever raised the bar for Disney’s nighttime fireworks by adding immersive projections not only on Sleeping Beauty’s castle, but also on Main Street USA. Additional projections of the Matterhorn, It’s a Small World façade and the Rivers of America completed the show for spectators throughout the park.

Perhaps better than any other Disney fireworks show, Disneyland Forever finds a rewarding emotional arc. Sweep ‘Step in Time’ over the Main Street facades before knocking it down with ‘I See the Light’, delve into absurdity with Winnie the Pooh then soar with the majesty of The Lion King. The pure, blissful joy of “Under the Sea” leads to the overwrought emotion of the Mount Wannahockaloogie scene from “Finding Nemo.” And, of course, the fires of this volcano can only be extinguished with “Frozen” snow.

It’s Disney’s fireworks masterpiece, which is why it became the runaway success of the Diamond Celebration.

Disneyland Forever will run Friday through Sunday nights through spring, transitioning to nighttime shows for the summer season.
