Decommissioned NY COVID response equipment is auctioned off

ORISKANY – While COVID variants are still out there, New York can move on from the worst – or at least update supplies and equipment for a possible next wave.

A sign of that is the auction the State Office of General Services has scheduled for later this month, where some 1,300 decommissioned COVID response items will be auctioned off over two days.

Items range from ambulances and trucks and portable generators to telephones, building materials and air handling units.
Many were provided by FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, while others were decommissioned equipment that state offices had on hand.

Some of the items are from disused facilities, including generators, patient pod rooms, bathroom trailers, and showers. OGS officials say the state has enough medical and other equipment in case there is another variant of COVID or a new public health emergency.

Auctions will be held at the New York State Preparedness Training Center, 5900 Airport Road in Oriskany, Oneida County, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29 and Wednesday, November 30.

Bidders can participate in the auction in person or by proxy in Oriskany and virtually here at https://www.perryauctions.com.

Also auctioned are HVAC systems and supplies; oxygen supply systems; electrical systems and components; lumber; plumbing fixtures and fittings; components of fire detection and prevention systems; scaffolding and shipping containers.

The auctions will also include items traditionally sold at other OGS vehicle, roadside equipment and miscellaneous goods auctions. These include trucks, passenger vehicles and generators.

All bidders must register to participate in the auction and can pre-register online here or at https://www.perryauctions.com/ to avoid queues during on-site registration periods.

Preview periods and on-site registration begin at 8 a.m. each day.

Payments from successful bidders are due no later than 3:00 p.m. each day and must be in cash or credit card. OGS will provide loading services at no charge for this special auction. The supplier providing these services will also be on site both days of the auction to schedule pick up times.

In addition to the dates on which the auctions take place, the site will be open to successful bidders to pick up their items between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday immediately following the auction.

All items must be removed from the auction site by 4 p.m. on Monday, December 5.
