It was so wonderful to get the chance to see what artist Kara Taylor did in Cape Town, South Africa this winter. Kara said her new work “is still in an incubation period”. She “makes the masks, assembles parts, puts them on models and photographs them, assembles them, assembles them”. I can’t wait for Kara to show her latest work in her gallery this summer. In the meantime, his exciting new series can be seen on instagram.com/karataylorart/.
When I moved from Edgartown to Chilmark and got a list of service people from the previous owners of our house, the chimney sweep listed was “Zeke”. Paul “Zeke” Wilkins was so much more, becoming the Tri-Town Ambulance Service Chief in 2011. We shared a deep love of the Adirondacks. Zeke always had a few minutes to chat wherever I met him, from the post office or Cronig to the annual barbecue. My thoughts are with his extended family and friends. Read his obituary at legcy.co/35XarQD. Donations in his memory may be made to The Code Green Campaign, gofund.me/8e6d0e5f.
I don’t even remember how I met the painter Marie-Louise Rouff, but I do remember meeting her husband Paul Levine when she invited me to lunch years ago. They had recently moved from California to the island to be closer to his daughter Mathea Morais and her family. Paul was working in his office and joined us for a few minutes before letting us talk about art again. Extends its deepest condolences to all of his extended family and friends. Paul Levine, 95, died at home on January 25, find out about his remarkable life here mvtimes.com/2022/02/01/robert-paul-levine/.
