Barbara Ann Burke’s funeral will be held Thursday noon at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Ms. Burke died on April 4, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 9, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, to James and Margaret Hunt.

Barbara proudly graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 1963. While in college, she attended summer school in Hawaii where she met her husband Richard A. “Dick” Burke. Barbara and Dick shared a union of love and service to others for over 55 years. They emphasized the importance of faith and family while raising seven children.

At each duty station, Barbara immersed herself in programs aimed at improving the community in which she lived. A lifelong educator, Barbara has taught in the public school system, in federal prison, and in her local parishes as a youth educator and adult trainer. interested in joining the Catholic Church. After retiring from Killeen ISD as a middle school teacher, she worked as a librarian at St. Joseph Catholic School. She has been actively involved in religious and community organizations including the Ladies of Charity, the Killeen Food Care Center and the Killeen Noon Lions Club.

Later in life, Barbara joined with her husband and children to form Burke Hunt Enterprises, which included Creative Concrete Coatings, The Garage Door Company of Texas, Log Cabin Learning Academy, and Trooper Signs. These ventures have enabled Barbara to impact individuals with her kindness and loving manner.

Barbara opened her heart and home to everyone she met, cared about others without expecting anything in return, and never boasted about her actions. She was the embodiment of Micah 6:8, her favorite scripture: “This is what the Lord requires of you, only this; act righteously, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, her husband Dick and her siblings Jim and Margie Hunt.

She is survived by her children, James and his wife Gloria of N. Richardson, Danny and his wife Vicki Fulbright of Durango, Colorado, Kevin and his wife Dora of Atlanta, Georgia, Kathleen and her husband Barry Gormley of Harker Heights, Patrick from Dallas, Maureen and her husband Felix Montez from Killeen, and Erin and Mark Kretzmeier from Portland, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, with a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
