2021 SML Business Expo thrives in a new location

Nearly 500 residents and visitors to Smith Mountain Lake spoke with local professionals representing 83 companies at the 17th Annual SML Business Expo on October 15th.

“It was a great success,” said Erin Stanley, director of member relations and events for the SML Regional Chamber, which hosts the event. “The energy was amazing and we got so much positive feedback from attendees and vendors. “

Free and open to the public, the Expo has allowed exhibitors from a wide variety of industries to share information about their products and services, answer questions, offer demonstrations, provide materials and network. with other professionals. Additionally, vendors highlighted job postings and spoke to potential candidates.

“I certainly saw a lot of conversations going on between business owners and attendees,” Stanley said. “It was exciting because strengthening the economic environment of our community is at the heart of the Chamber’s mission.

The event was held at EastLake Community Church for the first time and was sponsored by ZiTEL Broadband and F&S Building Innovations.

“The church’s indoor gymnasium and shopping center were ideal spaces for the Expo. They provided plenty of space for vendor booths and allowed attendees to socially distance themselves. And although it was a beautiful day, we didn’t have to worry about inclement weather, ”Stanley said, noting that the event was postponed from its usual date in early May due to COVID-19 restrictions. .

Stanley said more than $ 5,000 in door prizes were handed out, including two tickets to the Virginia Tech-Syracuse football game (WYTI radio), a $ 350 Cobra golf driver (ZiTEL) and HVAC services valued at $ 1,395 (Davis Plumbing, Heating and Air conditioning).

“The door prizes were certainly a big success,” said Stanley, “as was the Dirty Water Dogs SML food truck. Smith Mountain Lake Cafe inside EastLake has also extended its hours of operation so vendors and attendees can grab snacks and coffee.
